My Visit to Foreclosure, USA
On January 26, 2011 I ventured to UOP (University of the Pacific) to experience Kirk Crippens’ Foreclosure, USA series. I found that my views of his work teetered from photograph to photograph. There were some photographs that I felt were more moving than others. The photographs that really caught my eye were "Overgrown", "End", and "The Road." "Overgrown" is a moving photograph because at first I was struck by the beautiful flowers in it and then you realize that its grown like this because theres been no owner of the home to maintain the yard. I found this photograph to have both sad and happy qualities which is a conflicting and moving picture. "End" and "The Road" also became two of my favorites because of the emotions I got from them. I believe that they are just so mournful because of the foreclosures. I get this emotion because of the darkening, cloudy skies and because both are void of human life and have no movement in them. Both photographs just seem so empty and deserted. I found these to be the two I could connect with the fastest and moved me the most. It was interesting to observe how digital photography can be framed, priced, and displayed in a gallery setting. It was also neat to learn some information about UOP as well. Hope everyone else enjoyed it also.
